An imaginary world made-up of extraordinary people going about their everyday lives, Barkley Towers tells the tale of a community surrounding two apartment buildings in the suburbs. Each drawing is a scene that peers into the lives of individuals who are charming, funny, seedy and romantic. Inspired by an apartment complex the artist lived in as a child, Barkley Towers illustrates memories both real and imagined.
Using water-based paints, ink and pencil Sara Guindon depicts loners, drifters and night owls that frequent imaginary diners, bars, and grocery stores. Approaching her drawings as if they were scenes from a comic book, or stills from a movie, Sara attempts to tell a story, adding humor and drama to situations otherwise ordinary.
