A select group of Denver artists have been invited to draw upon the inaugural exhibition of Exquisite Corpse at GroundSwell Gallery. Based on an early 20th century Dada and Surrealist art trend, the Exquisite Corpse collaborative art work includes work by artists without full knowledge of the others’ contributions until the final assemblage of works are strung end to end. The common elements of media, format and marks that join each drawing are what we have to begin with. From there, each artist has only to imagine what might be at each end of their final drawing. The opening for the exhibit is a revealing of how these drawings and artists relate and contrast – the Exquisite Corpse itself. In keeping with GroundSwell Gallery’s objective to promote Denver’s artists, this project showcases the collective vitality of Denver’s illustrative artists working on paper with pens, pencils and the like. All artists participating in this project live and work in Denver, CO.
